This is an original Apollo command module used for astronaut ocean recovery training. With its fiberglass shell, this water egress training capsule - known as BP-1102A - was used by all Apollo, Soyuz and Skylab crews for water egress training. BP1102A was loaned on a long term basis to the USS Hornet, who oversaw its restoration. After spending time on display in Hangar Bay 2 of the USS Hornet, it was moved to the Udvar-Hazy Center. <from press release>

It currently sports the Apollo 11 flotation bags and flotation collar used in Columbia's recovery.
