Astronaut Emergency Trainer
Kennedy Space Center, FL
Downloading Orbiter Mockups from image files This image was made from a NASA photo ina a book about the KSC Fire Department.  One of the responsibilities is emergency crew rescue should the Orbiter miss or lide off the runway at landing.  This crew compartment can be moved from Shuttle Landing Facility to the barge turn basin for water based rescue training.  It can also rotate 90 degrees for on-pad egress emergency training.  It can normally be seen during the regular bus tour near the turn basin at the base of the Vehicle Assembly Building and the Press Site.
