Orbiter
Test Article
MPTA-098
Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, AL
Downloading Image from KSC image files On a tour of the old test stands at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, I spotted this long sought item. Recognizing it as the aft end of an Orbiter, I had a hunch and asked permission to photograph it. Inside the hatch to the fore of the oxygen inlet was a Rockwell nameplate that listed the serial number of 098. First used at Stennis Space Center for SSME tests, it was moved to MSFC for further tests. The test stand near which it stands was being readied for conversion to a Constellation assignment so the status of this artifact is up in the air. I do not know if the regular visitor tour bus from the US Space and Rocket Center makes it this far back in the property.
