Launch Complex
Mercury-Redstone
LC 14
Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, FL
This Atlas launch pad, one of several lining the coast of Cape Canaveral, was tasked to launch men into orbit. Four Mercury astronauts took flight from this pad. After being decomissioned by the U.S. Air Force, it was used as a hazardous storeage location. Before John Glenn returned to space abourd Discovery in 1998, it was cleaned up, opened, with new signage and 'honorary' parking spaces for the four astronauts and LC14 Launch Director. The blockhouse is currently used as a meeting room for the Air Force and Cape Canaveral contractors.
