Mercury
Model
NASA John F. Kennedy Space Center, FL
10/3/08 The Mercury Redstone booster has been taken down for painting, and will be moved to the Gate 3 entrance of KSC.
This reproduction spacecraft, manufactured by Guard Lee, sits atop the Redstone Booster found outside the KSC Gate 2 Press Registration on State Route 3 on Merritt Island. Made of fiberglass, it is nondescript , not meant to signify any particular mission. The fiberglass construction allows it to shield the more fragile booster interior from rain and water damage. The reproduction escape tower is made of aluminum. Read more about this on the Mercury Redstone booster page.
