Mercury
Flight Vehicle
# 20
MA-9
Faith-7
Space Center Houston, Houston, TX
This last flown Mercury Capsule is displayed hanging in front of a field of fiber-optic stars.  It is very impressive, although the dark hall makes it difficult to see detail.  This flash photo gives a good view of the parachute compartment and the orientation of the hatch and window.  Notice below the window you can see the star-shaped Faith 7 emblem, partially scoured by re-entry gases.

Before Space Center Houston was constructed, the Johnson Space Center's Visitor Museum was located in the back of Building 1, the training auditorium. Hanging near the stairs was Faith 7 and Gemini 5. In 1990 I shared an office here and passed the spacecraft everyday, but never thought to take a picture. The above images showing Faith 7 in the old location are courtesy of Ninfinger Productions.
