BA-1
Beach Abort
New York Hall of Science, Corona Park, NY
The first production capsule was used in a "Beach Abort" test, in which the capsule was allowed to be launched by its Escape Tower.  This was to ensure the operation of the ET and the parachute recovery system.

In 1964, the capsule was placed atop an Atlas booster for the New York World's Fair.  Due to its proximity to JFK International Airport, a set of aircraft warning lights was placed atop the ET (seen in the older image below).

This and the Atlas booster were recently restored.

The round porthole window indicates its early place on the production run.
