The LTA-3 is displayed outdoors in a picnic area used by school groups visiting the Franklin Institute. When I came to visit, I entered the museum from the north and enquired of the front where the spacecraft was. I was sent from one person to another to another, all not knowing what I was talking about. These were information people, not giftshop employees or ticket sales people. Finally, a security guard told me where it was, although it was in a closed area. It is located in a fenced area to the south of the main museum. The image was taken between the bars of the fence. The article is painted the way I remember the old Revell kits cald for, without any thermal blankets or such. |

I think this has got to be one of the most unusual images of a Lunar Module, sitting at the end of an urban street. |

A closeup of the article. The descent engine bell is sitting on the ground. The ladder is screened over to prevent children from climbing onto it. Although it has an official designation, it appears very similar to the mockups at the US Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL, and Stennis Space Center, Port St. Louis, MS (formerly at KSC, FL). |
