The last of the Gemini spacecraft series, this capsule carried Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin on a mission that paved the way for the Apollo moonwalks. It is displayed with one open door and one missing door in a glass cabonet that allows viewing from all sides. Restoration work was provided by the Kansas Cosomosphere and Space Center before arricing for permanent display at the Adler. Also on display is a collection of artifacts donated by Chicago native Jim Lovell.
At GSFC, Gemini XII was mounted within a raised platform with one door missing and one closed. Covered in plastic to protect it from unrestrained hands, it was often difficult to see detail and photograph because of the reflections from the glass wall that surrounded it.
