This Mercury-Atlas replica is one of three of its kind. The markings hold true to it's historical conterpart, although the spacecraft is lacking in detail. During a launch, the upper three fifths of the stainless steel body was frosted white with conensation due to the liquid oxygen stored within. Atlas rockets are difficult to display due to the use of balloon construction in the manufacture: they must be pressurized to hold their weight. |
