The Apollo 14 spacecraft was displayed at the Apollo/Saturn V Center of the KSC Visitor Complex as part of the 40th Anniversary celebration of Apollo 11. It is well lit and separated from the public by only a hand railing. This is one of the most accessible Apollo spacecraft on display. Special environmental systems in the display room help to preserve the spacecraft without encasing it. A plexiglas sheet covers the hatchway. The wire from the top carries electric current to power the spacecraft lights (I am not aware if special lighting was added, but assume it is).

The Apollo 14 spacecraft is shown in its display at the Hall of Fame. It has very subdued lighting which makes imaging difficult. The lighting makes great theater but poor for doing detailed observation. |

(Continued from above)
The Smithsonian did a wonderful fix up job while it traveled with the Smithsonian Institute's 150th Anniversary Show. The hatch and all EVA handles are attached. The spacecraft was originally displayed at the Rockwell Industries corporate headquarters in Downey, California, but did not return there to the disappointment of Californians. (Note: Alan Shepard is part of the board of directors for the Hall of Fame.)
